ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
History of the home:

Sarah & Norman Paukert bought this house in Sept 1966, moving out from from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with their 4 children. Norman was a Chiropractor in Dublin (the first in Dublin, until 1972) and Sarah was an avid gardener, baker, seamstress and mother.

Sarah & Norman both grew up on farms and have backgrounds in construction. In fact they built their house in Iowa, which was featured in Better Homes and Gardens in 1964.

When they moved to California they chose this property because of the yard and the rolling hills in the back. Behind the house was a cattle ranch, and today the owners still have cows and horses that roam by. The street in front was a dirt road when they moved here that few cars drove down, who shared the road with people on horseback. Today the road has become much busier, especially during the school morning and afternoon pick up rush, but the weekends are pretty quiet.

The room off the kitchen was used as a sewing and reading room. The short counter at the end the kitchen was built so the children could help cook and bake. The room off the laundry room was built and used as a canning room, and the left overs were stored under the house in a room they created for food storage. One nice part of having a raised foundation is under the house stays at a pretty even temperature all year round.

The detached studio was built as a place to sew, read, paint, and to rest (in a family of 6, you can never have too much space).

All throughout the inside of the house and you will find extra storage cabinets.
Under the house, one side was built up to be the ‘work shop’ where all the tools and supplies were stored.

The orchard has over 30 mature fruit trees and some very established herbs. Sarah used organic and complimentary gardening methods to keep pests at bay. Every year the weeds are whacked, then hand pulled and mulch laid to help keep weeds at bay. They also had a chicken coup and chickens creating amazing fertilizer which were spread thru the orchard. The pomegranate trees produce well over 1000 pomegranates every year and hundreds of persimmons. The large apricot tree in the orchard when pruned properly produces about 500 apricots a year.
